settling into 2022
January in DC starts with snow. We settle into winter and the year.
Early January can be daunting. We’re confronted by an endless stretch of time - a year - ahead. The year ahead is like a new puzzle - there are pieces but where and how will they fit? It’s an important reminder to take life day-by-day, week-by-week. Some puzzle pieces will fit and others will not.
To settle into the year - the day, the morning - I come to my mat before sunrise for yin yoga. The teacher talks about feeling heavy at this time of year. Not in reference to weight, but rather, how we seek ease and light. This first day of January, for me in DC, brings darkness, a snowstorm, which then clears into brilliant blue skies. The snow underfoot and the sun through branches distract the city from the pandemic hotspot it has become. We settle in and wait for Covid cases to peak and fall.
